Bravo Easy Kit
As early as 400 BC, Hippocrates believed in the importance of a well-functioning intestinal system when he said that “death sits in the bowels” and “bad digestion is the root of all evil” [Sekirov et al 2010]. Today we know that a proper balance of microbiota in the gut is essential to human health and that probiotics play important roles not only in the intestinal tract, but throughout the human body [Gerritsen et al 2011]. Research estimates the number of structural cells making up the human body are vastly outnumbered by the microbes (especially intestinal) residing within us, by a factor as large as ten [Savage 1977]. In just the decade between 2000-2010, over 5000 studies were published investigating the various species and functions of the bacteria we harbor, both good and bad [Verna and Lucak 2010; Daliri and Lee 2015]. The Bravo Easy Kit has been developed to supplement, recharge, and boost the friendly microbes that benefit our health.
Some of the significant roles played by the intestinal microbiota include: structurally fortifying the protective mucosal barrier along the intestinal walls and villi, digestion and elimination of waste, salvaging of energy from the fermentation of undigested food residues, synthesizing vitamins and proteins [Cummings and Macfarlane 1997], and protection against diarrhea, and other gastric disorders [Verna and Lucak 2010]. Reaching beyond the intestinal tract, there is evidence that probiotics can provide support for oral health [Evans 2016] and immune system reactions [Borchers et al 2009]. They can also help defend against disorders involving inflammation such as arthritis [Vaghef-Mehrabany et al 2014] and inflammatory bowel diseases, hypercholesterolemia [Ishimwe et al 2015], obesity [Bäckhed et al 2004], acne [AAD 2014], allergies [Özdemir 2010], vaginal infections [Daliri and Lee 2015], hypertension [Konturek et al 2011], autism [Critchfield et al 2011], and toxic metal overload [Upreti et al 2004]. Even the central nervous system, psychological mood, and stress can be affected by probiotics [Sekirov et al 2010; Konturek et al 2011; Saulnier et al 2013; Daliri and Lee 2015].
Numerous studies have examined the complex mechanisms by which the beneficial effects of probiotics occur [Fedorak 2010]. Some bacteria seem to be able to communicate with the host and modulate key signaling pathways to enhance or suppress certain types of reactions and regulate adherence by enteropathic bacteria [Bermudez-Brito et al 2012]. Dobson et al 2012 reviewed the role of antimicrobial peptides, or bacteriocins, produced by bacteria in establishing competitive exclusion of pathogenic strains. Bai et al 2006 showed that bacteria can exert an anti-inflammatory effect on inflamed tissues of ulcerative colitis by inhibiting NF-kappaB activation and inflammatory cytokine secretion. In vitro experiments with Lactobacillus rhamnosus showed it can inhibit cytokine-induced apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells [Yan and Polk 2002]. Lactobacillus paracasei was effective against Staphalococcus aureus injury to the intestinal mucosa of rabbits [Bendali et al 2011]. Bifidobacteria species resist colonization by pathogens and some evidence suggests they may support the body against colonic carcinogens [Picard et al 2005].
While most commercially available fermented milk products contain 2-6 microbial strains, the Bravo Easy kit is formulated in Switzerland and is made up of a proprietary blend of more than 40 bacterial and yeast strains. It also contains powdered high quality, organic, whole, pasteurized cow colostrum. Colostrum is the first milk produced after giving birth, and is especially important for development of the infant immune system because it is rich in immunoglobulins, antibodies, antimicrobial peptides, growth factors, and other bioactive molecules [Khan et al 2002]. Experiments with dogs fed bovine colostrum showed an increase in the diversity and stability of gut microbiota, as well as immune response [Satyaraj et al 2013]. The stability, healing properties, and synergistic bioactivity of whole, naturally derived colostrum, offers potential advantages over isolated extracts [Khan et al 2002]. There are no sugars, artificial colors or flavors added, and no hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, gluten, or other common allergens present in the Bravo Easy Kit.
Each kit contains enough packets of powdered colostrum and probiotic to make approximately 13 quarts. Each individual bag is conveniently pre-measured and ready to mix with a liter of boiled and cooled milk, preferably high quality and whole. After 24-48 hours (depending on preferred thickness), your healthful, fermented probiotic drink is ready to enjoy.
