BioPure Liposomal Melatonin, features Melatonin which is a hormone produced mainly in the pineal gland of the brain during the nighttime hours. It is involved with regulating the sleep-wake cycle in humans as well as circadian rhythms throughout the animal kingdom. Darkness stimulates the pineal gland to produce melatonin and light inhibits it.

Natural melatonin, and the synthetic forms that are being developed, have hypnotic and sleep-promoting actions, without hangover, withdrawal, or other side effects, and they are proving to be a useful supplemental support. The mechanism by which melatonin promotes sleep appears to be largely due to its effect on specific receptors in the hypothalamus “sleep switch”. Secretion of melatonin decreases with age, which may result in less efficient sleep patterns that are common among older adults. The importance of sleep as a time when our body rejuvenates, repairs, and detoxifies is well established. During sleep there is a significant exchange of cerebrospinal and interstitial fluid. Neurotoxic metabolic waste is cleared away, and important bioactive compounds such as amino acids, glucose, and lipids are distributed. Circulation of melatonin also increases at this time, allowing it to do its important radical scavenging and antioxidant processes. It also has an important role in immunoregulation, oral health, bone formation, and eyesight, and may be linked to supporting proper gastrointestinal physiology and oxygen supply levels in brain tissue.

One pump of BioPure’s Liposomal Melatonin spray into the mouth contains 4mg of synthetic melatonin encapsulated within tiny packages, or liposomes, made from purified natural sunflower lecithin phospholipids. This method of delivery has several advantages. The bioavailability of the contents is increased by an affinity with the phospholipids in our own cell membranes. The phospholipids can have a strong synergistic effect, creating a “push” or boost of the beneficial effects of the contents.
